Who Are You?

The accurate answer to this question holds an adventure, or perhaps a great invention, a cure for cancer, a breath-taking artistic expression, a series of books or even a great leader. However, Dr Myles Munroe described the richest place on earth as the grave, because that is where unsung songs, unwritten books and great inventions lie. I’m convinced that part of the reason this is true, is a lack of deliberation in answering this question..… who are you?

We hide behind masks – too busy trying to please people; behind responsibilities – looking for satisfaction in jobs; behind cliques – trying to fit in. However, unless we confront our identity, all masks, and social interactions are meaningless.

If we take the example of an aircraft, which has wheels and the capacity to move, just like cars; using it on a highway is awkward, and inconveniences other road users as well. Yet, how often do we find ourselves in jobs that aren’t suitable for us? On an adventure far removed from our real quest. And because we are afraid to face our identity, we stumble through life looking for happiness in all the wrong places, and before we know it, it’s time to close the chapter of life. We exit life without having lived to our full potential; we find comfort in existing – getting by, trading thrill and purpose for fear.

It’s not an easy question to answer, but good things seldom come easy in life. Instead of giving the best to others, our boss, TV, social media etc. then scrape what’s left for ourselves, maybe we need to reverse priorities and give ourselves PRIME TIME. For the answer to this question to find a home in our hearts, we need to carve time for ourselves and decipher our identity.

Then and only then, when we understand our identity, shall we be able to fly, live without limits, face our fears, make a resounding difference in our world, and fulfil our purpose. It starts by confronting the fear; removing the masks; shutting out the voices from the past, and appreciating that GOD created us for a unique purpose, and is counting on us to make a difference in the world.
